The online database remains the largest integrated source of well researched, systematic information on occupational labour markets in Australia.

It has a wealth of statistical, evaluative and reference data for over 1,060 occupations, including their latest average weekly full-time earnings by age-group, average retirement age, and much more.

Importantly, the methodology ensures that the earnings figures are realistic and reliable guides to market rate income by age-group and occupation and that the other statistics reflect best practice principles in occupational research.

The powerful Query function lets you search on 14 information fields, alone or in combination. This identifies immediately which occupations meet your search criteria.

The content and sources are explained in the Information Paper found in the Sources on the toolbar. The Sources page also has other reference papers on database topics.

Introduction of OSCA

OSCA is the Occupation Standard Classification for Australia, which was developed by the Australian Bureau of Statistics and released in December, 2024. The Bureau will begin classifying labour market statistics to OSCA from September, 2026, beginning with the Labour Force series and going on to the 2026 Population Census. Until that happens, the Job Markets Australia database will continue to use the ANZSCO classification. A crosswalk between OSCA and ANZSCO is now available for every occupation in the database by selecting the OSCA option in the Content Options when obtaining a report. The Bureau’s correspondence files between OSCA and ANZSCO can be downloaded from the “Sources” page of this website and from www.abs.gov.au.
